While you are in your tracking period, the general rule is that the more data you share, the more valuable insights and learnings the team can share with you at the tracking review visit. This means, anything that you think could have impact on your blood sugar you should share with us. Here are some examples of things that could be valuable.

 

Food & drink

Starting with the most obvious one, food & drink. The more pictures you share of food you eat the better. Even if you snack a bit here and there throughout the day, try to snap a photo as everything we see helps us understand you and your lifestyle better.

Exercise

If you do longer and/or more intense exercise make sure to log that in the app. We automatically track how much you move around (iPhone only) so no need to share regular walks etc. But as soon as you are at the gym, on a bike or play sports log an exercise event.

 

Medication

Logging insulin, metformin and other diabetes related medications is key to understanding your blood sugar dynamics. But, it can be helpful to share things that are not typically seen as impactful for diabetes as well as some medication can affect your blood sugar.

 

Travel

If you travel frequently it’s always helpful for us to know when and to where. Things like climate and adjusting to time zones can affect your blood sugar and we can help you stay safe when your body is adjusting.

Work events

Sometimes events at work can be helpful to know about so that we can understand your lifestyle. One thing that usually comes up is that big meetings or presentations can cause stress and affect blood sugar quite dramatically. So, if you want to learn how to better manage those type of situations you can log a note and tell us about it.

 

Sleep hours

An irregular sleep schedule can also affect blood sugar and make it harder to control. If this is something you’re interested in learning more about you can log when you go to bed and how much sleep you get.

There is no one right answer to this question. It really comes down to you and how much work you want to do managing your diabetes. On average, our members interact with us at least once a week and that can be everything from a simple refill request to a complex problem they need help with.

We want you to set your own pace so that you neither feel overwhelmed or forgotten. We have a series of pre-defined check-ins like the Time In Range notification we send out every two weeks and the monthly reports. Those touch points are generally good times to ask for help.

Remember that no question is too small or too large. We built Steady to support you through everything around your diabetes so don’t be afraid to ask!

The tracking period is 7 days long. During those 7 days, our endocrinologist will be looking over your CGM data with the events you log and chatting with you about them.

  • Track food, drink, exercise, and insulin (ignore insulin option if this doesn’t apply to you).
  • Add notes for the things you are curious or have questions about.
  • Schedule a tracking review visit for 2 weeks after the first day of your tracking period.

First off, welcome to Steady! We’re so excited to start working with you. There are a couple things you can do to get started:

  1. Schedule a first visit
  2. Complete the health history form and medical release form in your confirmation email. The medical release form is for us to request records from your previous endocrinologist or current primary care provider.
  3. Send us pictures of the back and front of your insurance card. You can do this by clicking the small green plus button on the left of the messaging space and selecting “Camera”.
  4. If you already have a CGM and/or pump, share your data with us.
  5. Ask us any questions you may have via Steady messaging

 

First visit

Your first visit is with one of our Endocrinologists. During this visit, you will go over the following agenda items:

  • Talk about your complete medical history, including diabetes treatment
  • Assessment of your current health situation
  • Careful evaluation of risk factors for complications
  • Discuss what is important to you when it comes to your health

 

Tracking period

After the First Visit, we will ask you to track your lifestyle for 7 days. Our clinical team will review your data daily and may send you clarifying questions in the app. You should live your life as usual and know that our team will not be judging your lifestyle choices. The more detail you provide, the more you will get out of it!

Things you should track manually in the Steady app

  • Take photos of all your meals, snacks, and drinks.
  • Log your exercise
  • Log notes of anything that can impact your blood sugar, such as sleep and stress
  • If you are taking insulin, make notes of each dose in the Steady app.

Data we can collect automatically

  • Share data from your Continuous Glucose Monitor with us. The method of sharing differs between different brands of CGM and we will help you get set up after your first visit
  • If you are using an insulin pump, we will instruct you how to share that data with us
  • If you are using an iPhone, we can collect your step count through Apple Health
  • If you are using an an iPhone and a connected insulin pen, we can get that data through Apple Health

 

Tracking review visit

After tracking everything for 7 days, you will meet with your Endocrinologist to review your data. During this 60-minute visit, you will go over the insights we have and discuss how we can help you tweak your management.

Setting a goal can be key to getting where you want to go but it’s not always easy. Goals should challenge but also be achievable to avoid being demotivated in case you don’t get all the way.

In the article we’ll cover the different type of goals we support at Steady and some general principles for coming up with good ones.

First, let’s go through the different goals that are available to set in our app.

Your personal range

The standard range for people with diabetes is 70-180 mg/dL. If you are recently diagnosed or setting goals for the first time, this is a great range to start with. If you have pre-diabetes we recommend 70-140 mg/dL.

A1C

Hemoglobin A1C is the most standardized metric to determine how well controlled diabetes is. A1C is typically done as a blood test which gives you the result but it can also be estimated using data from a CGM. The gold standard for good control is an A1C below 7% but if you’re starting out higher it might make sense to start with a more reachable goal and take it step by step.

If you have pre-diabetes we recommend an A1C goal of 5.6% or below.
